This art form began many centuries ago in China, spread to Japan and Korea, and is recently gaining popularity world-wide. There are several types of stone art associated with Viewing Stones. Each one is as complex and rich as the cultures who originated them. They can be classified by one or a combination of the following: shape, texture, color, surface patterns, or place of origin.

Difference of 壽石 and 水石
The 壽石 emphasizes the element which is a internal of the stone, the stone is living is meaning. Natural this during old time it is a language of spirit meaning which it creates.
The 水石 as meaning which emphasizes an external of the stone, reduces 山水景石(scenery stone) and it is a language which it uses. The second base we it talks the position natural scene with the water and the stone.
